Holidays make our life brighter and more interesting. They have different meanings and their own history. During our holidays we can have some fun and just relax. Since my childhood one of my favourite holidays has been New Year’s Day.

New Year’s Day is the best time for me to spend with my family in the magical and festive atmosphere, with delicious food. Schoolchildren love this time because it’s a great start оf their winter vacation. When I was a small child I wrote letters to Father Frost and asked him for some sweets and a toy as a present. I also painted New Year greeting cards and put them under my parents’ pillows.

We usually start getting ready for the New Year’s Day in advance: we prepare presents, buy muсh food and decorate our house and the New Year tree. We also go shopping to find some nice clothes because it’s a good tradition in our family to celebrate the New Year’s Day in new clothes.

My mother always holds a real feast: she makes lots of salads, meat dumplings, cooks chicken with vegetables and bakes fruit tarts. They all taste fantastic. We watch entertaining programmes on TV and set off firecrackers in the yard. Sometimes we go to the central square to watch colourful carnivals, concerts and fireworks. Adults also have a ten-days’ holiday and it gives them a chance to visit their relatives and friends and enjoy the time together. We also have enough time to travel, indulge in sports and other hobbies.

I really enjoy New Year’s Day and every year I look forward to celebrating it with my family.

Моя мама всегда устраивает настоящий пир: она готовит много салатов, пельмени с мясом, курицу с овощами и печет сладкие пироги. Они все очень вкусные. Мы смотрим развлекательные передачи по ТВ и запускаем во дворе фейерверк. Иногда мы ездим на центральную площадь и смотрим на красочные карнавалы, концерты и фейерверки. У взрослых тоже 10-дневный отдых, поэтому есть возможность навестить своих родственников и друзей, заняться спортом и любимыми занятиями.

Мне очень нравится Новый год, и каждый раз я с нетерпением жду его, чтобы отпраздновать со своей семьей.

Some of them recall the important historical events of our country, for example, May 9 (the day of victory over fascist Germany), February 23 (the day of defender of the fatherland, originally associated with the creation of the Red Army), June 12 (the day of Russia, we celebrate the adoption of the declaration on state sovereignty of the RSFSR).

But there are family holidays when all relatives gather to share good news and a positive mood or just to be with people close in spirit. To such holidays I attribute the modern celebration of the Day of family, love and fidelity, which is celebrated on July 8. Perhaps this is the youngest holiday, it appeared in 2008 and is associated with saints Peter and Fevronia, patrons of marriage and family ties.

The symbol of this day is the chamomile. On this day, it is customary to give bouquets of chamomiles or cards with the image of chamomile s, to weave wreaths of these flowers. Moreover, many young people seek to register their marriage on this day, in the hope that it will be happy and long-lasting. If couples have been married for more than 25 years and citizens consider their union a role model, since they lived soul to soul and raised worthy children, these couples receive medals “For Love and Fidelity”.

Personally, I believe that this is one of the most important and sincere holidays, because the family is paramount in the life of any person

My favourite holiday is New Year🎄 It is one of the oldest and deeply revered holidays.

Not only children but also grown-ups love New Year. New Year is a special holiday in my family.

A few days before New Year we put up our Christmas tree in the living room. We also decorate other rooms. We put Christmas figurines on the shelves and hang garlands around the house. All these things fill our house with special festive atmosphere🎊🎉.

My mum cooks something special for New Year’s dinner . We all help her. We like to follow the new trend and celebrate New Year wearing same colours as the colour of the animal in Chinese calendar.

For example, when we celebrated the New Year of the Red Monkey, we wore red and orange. It is believed, that following this tradition will bring you lots of luck in the new year.

We usually watch different New Year programmes on TV on this day. When the clock on the Kremlin tower strikes midnight, we, according to the long-standing tradition, make our wishes and give each other compliments of the season. After that we exchange gifts with each other🎁.

When I was little, I always looked forward to the coming of New Year. I am a lot older now but have the same feeling in my heart.

For me, New Year is the night when air is filled with magic , this is the time of new hopes and aspirations, a feeling of easiness and joy. This is the time when I want to live, enjoy my life to the full and move forward!

Не только дети, но и взрослые любят Новый год. Новый год – особый праздник в нашей семье.

За несколько дней до Нового года мы ставим елку в гостиной. Мы также украшаем и другие комнаты. Мы ставим новогодние статуэтки на полки и развешиваем гирлянды по дому. Все это наполняет наш дом особой праздничной атмосферой🎊🎉.

Моя мама готовит что-то особенное на новогодний ужин . Мы все ей помогаем. Мы любим следовать новой моде и встречать Новый год одевшись в точно такие же цвета, что и цвет животного из китайского календаря.

Например, когда мы встречали год Огненной обезьяны, мы были одеты в красное и оранжевое. Считается, что соблюдение этой традиции принесет удачу в Новом году.

Мы обычно смотрим разные новогодние программы по телевизору в этот день. Когда куранты на Кремлевской башне бьют полночь, мы, согласно давней традиции, загадываем желания и поздравляем друг друга с праздником. После этого мы дарим друг другу подарки🎁.

Когда я был маленьким, я всегда с нетерпением ждал Нового года. Сейчас я намного старше, но в душе у меня то же самое чувство.

Для меня Новый год – это ночь, когда в воздухе витает волшебство , это время новых надежд и стремлений, чувство легкости и радости. Это время, когда мне хочется жить, радоваться жизни и идти вперед!

Holidays have always been there. They can be connected with some national, family or personal celebrations. Some holidays are international ones such as New Year’s Day or Women’s Day. Some holidays which at first were national or religious have become popular all over the world, for example, Saint Valentine’s Day.

I like almost all holidays. Most of them are non-working days. One of my favourite holidays is New Year. People of all ages like celebrating it. New Year falls on the night of the 31st of December. So the 1st of January is the beginning of the year.

I like this holiday because people seem to be kinder and better. Everyone feels this magic in the air. At the beginning of December almost all buildings are decorated with some festive things such as garlands, tinsel and figures of Santa Claus and deer.

One of the most important parts of celebrating this holiday is gifts. I think it is necessary to prepare them as early as possible. As for me, I prepare gifts in November or at the beginning of December. I pack them into the beautiful boxes which I make by myself. It is important to cook the dishes. Every year we set the table. We serve vegetable salads, pastry, baked chicken and so on. Of course, every year we buy Christmas tree and decorate it with toys and garlands.

Одна из самых важных частей празднования – подарки. Я думаю, что необходимо подготовить их как можно раньше. Что касается меня, я готовлю подарки в ноябре или в начале декабря.
